Acreage Slashing in the Gympie Region
Hi! Thanks for looking up Gympie Slashing.
We provide a friendly and reliable slashing service for rural and semi rural acreage blocks in the Gympie Region. Please have a read to find out some basic answers about hourly rate, type of jobs done, areas serviced, etc.
NEWS FROM OWNER, JANUARY 28 2026-
After operating for 17 years I'm handing over the reins to a new owner, Jake Long. Jake is an experienced and capable operator and will take over all the slashing from now on.
His phone number is below, but first, thanks to everyone who has engaged me in the past and I wish you all the best. I am confident that Jake will carry on with the good service that Gympie Slashing has provided.
Please phone Jake Long on 0438 999 903.
Thanks, Chris Kelly.
All the info below is relevant and Jake will discuss any questions you have when you give him a call.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
As every job is different, we provide customised quotes to ensure you get the best service at the best price. Please contact us to discuss your needs and recieve a free quote.
There is a travel fee for shifting the tractor which can be from $80 to $110 depending where it is.
WHY IS THERE A TRAVEL FEE?
It’s to cover the cost of running the truck and the time taken travelling, and loading and unloading the tractor.
HOW SOON CAN YOU COME?
It can be from 2 or 3 days wait, up to 2-3 weeks when it gets really busy and the grass is growing madly.
CAN YOU GIVE A QUOTE?
Sometimes I can, if it's a smaller area up to 10 acres and the whole lot is easy to see. Sometimes it has to be an estimate or a straight out hourly hire, because I can't really see what's there or can't see the whole lay of the land.
HOW MUCH CAN YOU SLASH IN AN HOUR?
It’s tricky to answer that because there are so many things that affect it. A rule of thumb could be 1.5 -2.5 acres per hour but it could be faster or slower depending on things like how much turning is involved, things to go around, steep sections, steep banks and gullies, short or long runs, how thick the grass is, gates, fiddly bits, multiple trees, etc.
Basically it's determined by what speed the tractor is travelling and how much manouvreing is involved.
DO YOU DO CASH JOBS MAAATE ??
Unfortunately I can't offer the service of subtracting the GST from the price in exchange for being paid in cash. It just makes the whole banking, bookkeeping and business cash flow a big mess. Sorry to be harsh, it wasn't me that introduced GST!
I definitely accept cash, but it includes the GST. The best system for me is to give an invoice, on paper or by email, and get a bank transfer into my account. I do take cash if that suits you better, but don't have EFTPOS.
Payment is due as soon as the invoice is received. That's the only way I can keep rolling.
THE EQUIPMENT
I use a John Deere 6125M 4WD tractor, which is 125 horsepower.
It can handle steep country if it's not slippery, and I'm happy to do country that isn't steep too!
The tractor has a front loader with a standard bucket ( not 4 in 1) for pushing the odd log or pushing regrowth trees up to 3 or 4 meters high, or smoothing out a bit of loose material. It's not a bulldozer but can do a fair bit of tidying. The tractor and bucket aren't suited to earthworks or roadworks, just pushing or lifting.
THE SLASHER
The machine I use is a Howard 7 foot EHD ( extra heavy duty). It can can handle thick grass and small regrowth up to about 2.5-3 metres high.
However the tractor and slasher are not designed to slash really rough conditions involving a lot of rocks, logs, stumps etc. because of the potential for serious damage to the tyres, blades, gearbox and underbody components.
I can have a look at the job and make that assessment.
DO YOU CHARGE BY THE ACRE?
No, by the hour.
WHAT AREAS DO YOU COVER?
We cover all of Gympie and surrounding areas. As far North as Gunalda and as far South as Cooroy. If you are not sure if you fit in these areas, please feel free to give us a quick call or text.
I can recommend operators in other districts if that's best for everyone. Thanks for looking me up, Jake.
